The man went on to say, "Acupuncture opens up the energy." This reminded me of a visit I did thirty years ago, to a little health food store in Colorado. At the time I was experiencing severe headaches. The owner of the tiny store was an R.N. and was considered to be a little wacky in the community. She preferred organic foods and worked with herbs and nutritional supplements. Prior to living in this little town I had spent 4 years on the east coast at a Yoga Institute where Yoga, Meditation, and Ayurveda were taught and practiced. Needless to say, I felt like a fish out of water out there in Colorado, but the nurse in the health food store referred me to an acupuncturist for my headaches. I had to travel 130 miles weekly but after a year of treatments not only had the headaches reduced significantly but I had quit my job and moved to Santa Cruz California to attend acupuncture school. One of the causes of the headaches was that I was searching for a way to flow my energy into a life path. My acupuncturist helped me to realize that I had to renovate and direct my life in order for my health to return. These early experiences have led me into a similar approach in the treatments I offer. One of the beauties of acupuncture is that careful guidance to the meridian system restores our perfect flow and change is supported easily.
While a student I was very blessed with outstanding teachers at Five Branches Institute. Besides getting to study with Dr. Joanna Zhao, Dr. Sharon Feng,. Dr. Richard Liao, Dr.Richard Shwery, Dr. Lucy Hu, I had the opportunity to study with Liu Ming (Charles Belyea) who taught 'Chinese Philosophy and History' as well as 'Dietetics'. These teachers, have for the past 20 years, been a large part of my every day life . As an initiatory experience the time spent with my teachers powerful selflessness was an amazing lesson and gift for me.
And now, of course, every single day I meet with and relate with clients who are on similar paths of self discovery. We work on lots of aspects in their lives but the main aspect is reconnection with energy flow in the body, mind, and life.
Today I walked into a health food store in Mount Shasta and I overheard a man checking out at the counter. He said " I'm going to look into Acupuncture for this too", referring to some ailment he was working on.
