What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is an ancient system of body/energy medicine which recognizes the body as a field of energy. Acupuncture uses a meridian system acknowledging channels or energy flows which, when treated, can balance ( tonify or reduce unwanted) energy in the body. This "treatment" is accomplished by using control points which have been discovered and archived over thousands of years to effectively help the body/mind come into it's own harmony. The treatment is primarily decided upon by diagnostic methods of reading the tongue and pulse and interfacing these readings with the clients "story" regarding their observed/felt symptoms.Acupuncture stimulates the natural healing abilities of our body's by recognizing that each cell has the potential and inherent desire to come into it's own highest balance. The physical practice/art of acupuncture is accomplished by the insertion of sterile needles into the acu-points and by using various hand/energy techniques which guide the energy along the pathways or areas known to be the most effective for the manipulation of QI (energy). The process of acupuncture is almost always painless and the immediate effect of the treatment (which involves resting with the needles in for 25-30 min) usually leaves the patient in a stress free/ deeply relaxed state. In my practice I preface the acupuncture treatment with a short table shiatsu treatment to help the body to release tension and be further open to the needles effects. |
